PUMPKIN DROP CANCELED DUE TO POOR WEATHER. GAMES AND CRAFT WILL BE MOVED INDOORS FROM 12:30 TO 1:30. COMPOST BINS FOR PUMPKINS WILL BE OUTDOORS FROM 11-2:30.
Who said being GREEN can’t be fun? Watch your pumpkins soar and roll to the compost. The ever popular “Big Red” trebuchet/catapult designed and built by Mundelein High School students will be on hand once again for the “launching” of the pumpkins. Children pre-registered by October 27 will be entered into a drawing, with 20 winners launching on the day of the event (please remove all materials from inside your pumpkin). We’ll measure the distance of the 20 pumpkins and the winner will receive a special prize.
There will be other activities that include a pumpkin roll race, smashing games new Pumpkin Walk game, and more.
Pre-registration is encouraged and only pumpkins from participants will be accepted.
JUST ADDED: Mundelein Park District , Washington Early Learning Center, and the Village of Mundelein have teamed up to offer a large-scale, pumpkin only, community-wide composting opportunity in conjunction with the Pumpkin Drop event. A dumpster will be available for pumpkin drop off (pumpkins only, no candles or added decorations) during the hours of 11 am to 2:30 pm near the sled hill at Community Park.
Also added, composting specialist Vytas Pabedinskas will be educating participants on the science behind composting and the benefits of diverting those past their prime pumpkins from the trash.
